Wood duck (Aix sponsa)

Wood duck (Aix sponsa)
This duck was hiding in the plants at the edge of the pond. When I walked nearby, it flew into a pine tree.

Great capture Ronald. Does the name give a clue to his habitat?

I think so. They prefer to nest in holes in trees. I have provided them with houses, but there are also many hollow trees here.

Yes, their preferred nest is in a hollow tree. I also provide them wooden boxes for nests.

They prefer to nest in trees that are near to water. This one nests in a wooden box I put on a pole in the pond.
