I well remember the smells of the lobster creels, and the tarred rope, the oily fuels and the tang of the seaweed, and of course the smell of the gasworks just along form here. My childhood.

vero, Sylvain Wiart, John FitzGerald, Andy Rodker and 27 other people have particularly liked this photo

Very similar smells were in my childhood surroundings... still are -at least not far- and I love them...
Fine composition there, by the way!

During my 'yoof' we had noises.... the roar from the Sheffield Untied football ground when a goal was scored.. it echoed all around the streets... // A lovely photo Amelia'.. it's good to have these memories.. I zoomed out on the map.. to see where you were.

A lovely harbour scene and I like the smells you remember. My early childhood was in the country and I don't remember smells. The rest of it was in Glasgow where I remember soot, the noise of tram cars, rag and bone men and their carts and the smell of sulphur from local works, sometimes strong enough to make you cough. Of and hot tar from road repairs, a favvourite.

The sea smells from your childhood are much nicer than some I remember of mine (farmers spreading liquid manure, the whole town stank...).

You never forget the smells of your childhood Amelia, whether they are good or bad. I love the smell of a working harbour. Sometimes I recognise a smell that reminds me of my grandmother, who I was very close to and she died when I was 11....I love that smell.

Superb composition Amelia. The colours of the boat and fishing gear contrasting nicely with less than colourful background. I also lie the reflections on the wet quayside.

Stay safe, Doug

A lovely harbourside image, Amelia. Yes, it's interesting how smells or noises can bring memories of the past. I grew up near a railway, so coal smoke would be it for me - though now I'm far from a rail line.

A wonderfully colourful and well composed shot Amelia............fishing boats and lobster pots make for great photos!

I like the diffused light too............and everything looks fresh and clean after the rain!
