Staircase inside Lista lighthouse

Staircase inside Lista lighthouse
The Lista Lighthouse is a 34 meter tall stone tower which was lit for the first time on the 10th of November 1836. During the Second World War, a bunker system was built around the lighthouse to protect it from Allied Forces. The lighthouse sits on a cape on the edge of the Listafjorden which marks the extreme southwestern edge of the mainland of Norway. The lighthouse had a foghorn that was used from 1877 until 1987. In 1937, the station began emitting a racon signal of the morse code letter "G".

Follow the 134 steps to the top and enjoy the fantastic view of the Lista peninsula and the sea.. These are the final 14 steps up to the top. The views are wonderful.

That is nice to see in a photograph. I would never get to the top of that lighthouse, I don't like heights. Well done.

Two excellent shots Amelia. I would love to climb the ladder and I would try my hardest...but I don't like heights either :-/

Great perspective Amelia, it gives a good impression of the steepness of the steps. Thanks for the interesting information and the outside view in the PiP.

... a nice composition: the steps and handrail are attractive elements (slightly curving?) ....

... but 134 steps (ack!), and one must come down backwards? ... so, an achievement to reach the top and return to the ground ...

Well done to getting to the top Amelia....................quite apart from me not liking heights, I wouldn't be able to stand up after climbing all those stairs..!!

A cracking pair of images....................the lighthouse looks beautiful in the sunshine!

The ascent is always seductive, and-too late- you realise that going back down will be much more difficult.
