Fussell's Brewery Building ~ Rode

Fussell's Brewery Building ~ Rode
The former Fussell's Brewery lies at the centre of Rode, between Frome and
Bradford-on-Avon. The brewery appears to have grown up from a small-scale
brewhouse, which is known to have existed behind the Cross Keys Inn by at least
1818. With a reliable 200ft well immediately to the south of building, it expanded greatly in 1903 and 1934, to an extent that it must have served more than the immediate needs of the village. The brewery buildings constructed at that time now dominate the street scene and is complimented by the early 20th century entrance. The brewery closed in 1962 and the building is converted to flats.

Buenas fotografías y explicación del tránsito del edificio. Me queda la duda de si el frente acristalado, que supongo es nuevo, se trata de un ascensor panorámico o de un mirador.

Thank you very much José. The glass front is an elevator and stairs. Must be a good view and next to a pub as well :)

Quite right Doug. They have a well inside the pub, covered by glass. I think it must have been quite a prosperous village, and the pub serves very good food. One has to try these things ;-))

All the best, Rosa.

An interesting history a shame it ended in the manner of so many companies, if they did their own malting it would have added a distinctive smell to the town. I hope you have a good day Rosalyn

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Peter Castell club
Thank you Peter. That would have been a nice smell. They do have a small chocolate factory in the middle of the village, and that smells good :) Have a good day.

Thank you George. I like to see these buildings repurposed, like many of the mills along the rivers, so many are now very nice living quarters.

Great and interesting shots. The notes help too, especially when describing that sad thing, a 'former' brewery!!

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Andy Rodker club
Yes, a sad day when it closed down Andy. On the plus side there are so many micro breweries popping up all over the place now!

Yes, and a good thing too! (Not much use to me in Madrid, though!!! - says I rather selfishly!)
