Much Wenlock ~ Shropshire

Much Wenlock ~ Shropshire
The Talbot is situated in the centre of the historic High Street, originally known as Spittle Street. The home of the late William Penny Brookes, who created the Olympic movement and is Much Wenlock's most famous son is just a few doors away. The Inn is approached through an archway, from where this photo was taken.

Istvan Farkas, Nouchetdu38, Bill Robinson / kinderbill, Valeriane ♫ ♫ ♫¨* and 27 other people have particularly liked this photo

I like the treatment you've given this shot Rosa............it works very well.

I can see why they renamed the street...................it doesn't bear thinking why it was called Spittle Street originally :-))

Thank you Keith. This shot was rubbish in colour, so just trying a few things with it on a soggy, windy, Sunday afternoon! Yes, High Street is preferable ;-))

I like your processing. It suits this old building so well. Spittle doesn't sound appealing but I think it derives from old words for lodging house and hospital.

Thank you Jean. Yes I think you are right with the definition. I love how language evolves and learning old meanings.

A lovely little town Peter. It was a very quick visit on our way home. My daughter and I hope to have a long weekend in that area this summer.
