Large Red Damselfly (Female)

Taken in my garden. I was surprised to see it as I always associate these with water, and the only water I have in my garden is a couple of bird baths!

I used my 40-150mm zoom lens to get this shot and then cropped it, as I couldn't get near enough to the damselfly with my 60mm macro. Better viewed large.

The detail you have captured here is superb Keith. To think that you only had seconds to get a picture, as they soon fly off, you couldn't have got a better picture. I also love the detail in the Lamb's Ear plant, that looks beautifully tended by Jackie!

Thanks Rosa................I was really lucky to be in the garden when it arrived.........it didn't hang about very long. I wasted a bit of time trying to use the macro lens, but it wouldn't sit still, so I had to dash indoors and grab the other lens.

Glad you think so Fred.............thank you. We call that plant "Lamb's Ear" and we have quite a few in the garden. I think I might start calling them Donkeys' Ear in future.

The plant is called Stachys byzantina or Lambs' Ear (and as I've discovered today in Holland it's called Donkeys' Ear). I have quite a few in the garden.
