Woodland Finds

Woodland Finds
As much as I hate to admit it, I think my days of crawling around the woodland floor taking photos are numbered. My knees and back just can't take it anymore without a three day rest afterwards :-)))

It's much easier to take a little bag with me and collect stuff to photograph at home and this is just what I've done here.

I set up a small table in the back garden (in the sunshine). I used natural light and a piece of card pinned to my fence as a background with a subtle texture added. To get maximum depth of field I did an in-camera focus stack. I hope you like it.

Nouchetdu38, ROL/Photo, Berny, Petar Bojić and 20 other people have particularly liked this photo

Nice to read about your 'method'.. there Keith,.. sounds like a good idea for an extension of the hobby of photography and capturing perfect results of ones' subjects,.. I've read of focus stacking but never attempted it,..// Keep well,. and Cheers'.... from Dj.

Thanks David.............it seems the sensible thing to do.............I'm glad you agree, and thanks for your kind comment.

I only started using photo-stacking when Olympus automated it and allowed us to do it all in-camera............it was far too difficult and time consuming before.

What a good idea to take a bag Keith. On the background you have chosen, I think it highlights the subject beautifully, and probably better than on the forest floor. Excellent work. My hip is a bit dodgy, so I will remember your tip!

Nice to sit out in the sunshine Keith. Looking good today as well :-))

You're very kind Rosa...........falling on my backside earlier this year was the last straw!

Glad you like this photo............I was pleased with how it turned out and it's always good to get some positive feedback.

It's been a pretty good day today..........didn't take many photos but we went out for lunch, which was nice.

Great idea and very nicely created Keith. I use photo stacking for macro shots and it works well here too! The choice of background makes a very effective canvas to display and highlight your woodland collection.

Glad you think so Ed..............I use photo-stacking for some of my macro shots as well. Being able to do it in-camera is awesome.

Thanks for your kind comments as always. Much appreciated.

I'm glad you can relate to this Güni...............as you get older to have to adapt the way you take photos.............but you seem to be doing OK at the moment, judging by your photos :-))

Thank you so much Herb.

I'm not sure my back and knees will improve unless someone invents a cure for getting old. Thanks anyway though :-)

This is a great picture of these cones. I'm like you - I can't go crawling around on the floor of woods and forests just for photos to be taken. I admit that the background suits the still life more like this than a blurred bokeh of leaves etc.

Keith Burton club has replied to Jenny McIntyre club
Thanks Jenny..........I'm pleased you like it. Getting old I'm afraid and just having to find ways to work round it and keep taking photos.

It's a shame that you won't be able to photograph these things in their natural environment anymore, but I really enjoy this presentation, Keith.

I'll still be doing my best to continue taking photographs of these things............it's just a case of finding easier ways of doing it. Glad you liked this shot,........and thank you.

You did well here, and I like your methods, Keith. I also do not deal well with crawling and bending in undergrowth.
I do like the result you achieved. Well done..D

Oooh, Keith, I know exactly what you mean! I'm extremely creaky, too. Anyway, this composition is fascinating - like a very odd lizardy think. I love the fuzzy part at the end. Very creative, sir!

Thanks for your comments Roland.............getting old is something we can't avoid, so we have to find ways to work around things we can't do anymore.
