Rotterdam Loods 24 deportation site (#0127)

Rotterdam Loods 24 deportation site (#0127)
An establishing shot, of serious importance. I came across this open plaza that initially seemed to be somewhat oddly not developed, considering the construction in the nearby areas. There was a monument in the plaza (to my right), but there was no English translation so I didn’t originally have a hint as to what it might be. On further examination, though, I realized that the monument referenced the Holocaust in some way. Researching, when I got home, I found that I was at the site of Loods [shed] 24, which was a harbor shed that German occupiers used as a gathering place for the deportation of Jews to death camps during WWII. The former site of Loods 24 has been preserved as a commemorative plaza. At the plaza is the Jewish Children’s Monument which lists the names and age of the known 686 children who were deported, all subsequently murdered at Auschwitz or Sobibor. (See adjacent pictures)
