El Centro former US Post Office (#0943)
This quite elegant building, in a very rough part of town (I was leary of leaving my car to take photos), is the former US Post Office. It was constructed in 1933/34 as a Public Works Administration (New Deal) project and closed in the 1970's. The style is described as Beaux Arts Classic; the building is one of two in Imperial County on the National Register of Historic Places, and (per sources) currently serves as a museum. Sources:
