Premier Travel Service 5 timetable - Summer 1972

Premier Travel Service 5 timetable - Summer 1972
In April 1937 Premier Travel acquired the Birmingham to Clacton-on-Sea road service licence from the London based Webber Bros which traded as ‘Empire’s Best’. This service became service 5 and travelled via Leicester, Bedford, Cambridge and Colchester. It was to become one of the company’s most significant operations and was expanded over the years.

The holding such a licence also enabled further service expansion from the West Midlands with holiday services to East Anglia from Worcester via Banbury, Buckingham etc (service 71) and from Kidderminister via Warwick, Leamington Spa etc (service 76).

More significantly at Leicester connections were available from service 5 to the East Midlands and North West by Yelloway and in the 1960s through joint services began which were operated by the two companies (services 74,75,77 and 78).

Joint services were also established with Midland Red from Birmingham to Southend-on-Sea (service 84) and Harwich-West Midlands-Bangor (service 87).
