In the evening, don't miss the last ferry, for example by lingering near the fishing nets and cages to take photos ;-) RETOUR SUR LE CONTINENT (GRANVILLE). Le soir, il ne faut pas rater le dernier ferry, par exemple en s'attardant auprès des filets et cages de pêche pour faire des photos ;-) RÜCKKEHR AUF DAS FESTLAND (GRANVILLE). Am Abend sollte man die letzte Fähre nicht verpassen, z.B. indem man zu lange bei den Fischernetzen und -käfigen verweilt, um Fotos zu machen ;-)

Déjà, c'est le plus grand archipel d'Europe et selon la tradition locale, il serait composé de 365 îles à marée basse et 52 à marée haute ! C’est à marée basse que l’on mesure l’intensité du phénomène avec les petites îles que forment les milliers de rochers de granit. Sur la "Grand'Île", la seule habitée (30 habitants) il n’y a ni voiture, ni vélo, les routes sont inconnues : c'est un autre monde. L'archipel est aussi une réserve ornithologique connue pour ses colonies d’oiseaux de mer. CHAUSEY IS ANYTHING BUT A COMMONPLACE. It's the largest archipelago in Europe and, according to local tradition, it's made up of 365 islets at low tide and 52 at high tide! At low tide, the intensity of the phenomenon can best be measured with the islets that form the thousands of granite rocks. On the "Grand'Île", the only inhabited island (30 inhabitants), there are no cars or bicycles, and roads are unknown: it's another world. The archipelago is also an ornithological reserve, famous for its colonies of seabirds. CHAUSEY IST ... ALLES ANDERE ALS EIN BANALER ORT. Zum einen ist es die grösste Inselgruppe Europas und besteht laut der lokalen Tradition bei Ebbe aus 365 Inseln und bei Flut aus 52 ! Bei Ebbe kann man die Intensität des Phänomens mit den kleinen Inseln, die die Tausende von Granitfelsen bilden, am besten messen. Auf der "Grand'Île", der einzigen bewohnten Insel (30 Einwohner), gibt es weder Autos noch Fahrräder, und Strassen sind unbekannt : es ist eine andere Welt. Der Archipel ist auch ein Vogelschutzgebiet, das für seine Seevogelkolonien bekannt ist.

Au milieu du 16e siècle Henri II fait construire cette forteresse pour Jacques de Matignon dont les descendants conserveront le titre de gouverneur de Chausey jusqu'en 1789. Ensuite elle fut abondonnée jusqu'à ce que le constructeur automobile Louis Renault l'achète en 1922. Il l’a faite entièrement restaurer avant de lui adjoindre la curieuse piscine d'eau de mer et taillée dans le granit (voir PiP). THE CASTLE BY THE BEACH. In the middle of the 16th century, Henry II had this fortress built for Jacques de Matignon, whose descendants retained the title of Governor of Chausey until 1789. It was then abandoned until the car manufacturer Louis Renault bought it in 1922. He had it completely restored before adding the curious seawater pool carved out of the granite (see PiP). DIE BURG AM STRAND. Mitte des 16. Jh. liess Heinrich II. diese Festung für Jacques de Matignon errichten, dessen Nachkommen den Titel des Gouverneurs von Chausey bis 1789 behielten. Danach wurde sie verlassen, bis der Automobilhersteller Louis Renault sie 1922 kaufte. Er liess sie vollständig restaurieren und fügte den kuriosen, aus Granit gehauenen Meerwasserpool hinzu (siehe PiP)..
