Raupe vom C-Falter: Ganz schön dornig - Caterpillar of the comma: Quite thorny

Diese seltsame Raupe mit ganz spitzen Dornen am ganzen Körper und bunter Farbe (ca. 3 cm groß) fand ich auf einer Brennnessel sitzend an einem Waldweg. Eine solche Raupe hatte ich noch nie gesehen. Ich konnte sie als die Raupe vom C-Falter (Nymphalis c-album) bestimmen. Merkmale: viele spitze Stacheln und bei älteren Raupen die weiße Farbe der Oberseite des hinteren Körperdrittels. Diese Weißfärbung ist im PiP besonders gut zu sehen. Als Nahrung für die Raupen dienen verschiedene Pflanzen, u.a. auch die Brennnessel.

I found this strange caterpillar with very sharp thorns all over its body and colorful color (approx. 3 cm tall) sitting on a nettle on a forest path. I had never seen a caterpillar like that before. I was able to identify it as the caterpillar of the comma (Nymphalis c-album). Characteristics: many sharp spines and, in older caterpillars, the white color of the upper side of the rear third of the body. This white coloring can be seen particularly well in the PiP. Various plants, including nettle, serve as food for the caterpillars.
