Die ziemlich große, bis 18 mm große Gemeine Waldschwebfliege oder Gemeine Hummel-Schwebfliege (Volucella pellucens) ist eine Fliege aus der Familie der Schwebfliegen (Syrphidae). Sie ist völlig harmlos und saugt gerne Blütensäfte, wie im Foto an einer Distelblüte. Man findet diese Schwebfliegen bevorzugt an Waldlichtungen und Waldrändern. Die begatteten Weibchen dringen in die Nester von Wespen oder Hummeln ein und legen dort ihre Eier ab. Ihre Larven leben hier und ernähren sich von Abfall, möglicherweise auch von der jeweiligen Brut.

The rather large, up to 18 mm large pellucid fly (Volucella pellucens) is a fly of the hoverfly family (Syrphidae). It is completely harmless and likes to suck flower juices, as in the photo on a thistle flower. One finds these hoverflies preferentially at forest clearings and forest edges. The mated females enter the nests of wasps or bumblebees and lay their eggs there. Their larvae live here and feed on waste, possibly also on the respective brood.
