Korallen im herbstlichen Wald - Corals in the autumnal forest

Natürlich sieht man im Bild keine Koralle im herkömmlichen Sinn, sondern einen ungenießbaren Pilz, und zwar die Verzweigte Becherkoralle (Artomyces pyxidatus). Diese seltsame etwa 5 cm hohe Pilzart sieht korallenähnlich aus und kommt in Laubwäldern (Buche, Eiche) vor, wo sie direkt auf dem Holz oder Rindenmulch lebt. Sie kommt in Franken zerstreut vor. Für mich war es ein Erstfund.

Of course, the photo does not show a coral in the conventional sense, but an inedible mushroom, the crown coral (Artomyces pyxidatus). This strange species of fungus, about 5 cm tall, looks like a coral and is found in deciduous forests (beech, oak), where it lives directly on the wood or bark mulch. It is scattered in Franconia. It was a first find for me.
