The Alps at Cervinia

The Alps at Cervinia
It’s the skiing season and even if the snows are late this year in the Alps I thought it would be nice for me at least to recap a skiing holiday I had once in the Italian ski resort of Cervinia. I was being towed up the mountain here in my skis with sticks in one hand and my camera in the other, all in readiness for a long run back down to the village. The high pointed mountain here, I think is one of the sides of the Matterhorn taken from above the ski resort. See PiP for the more famous view of the Matterhorn from the Swiss village of Zermatt where you can ski to from here.

A scanned photo, taken in January 1988. Nb. there is plenty of snow today in the higher resorts of the Alps.

Aye, I used to enjoy visiting these high places in the midst of winter Gordon. I think the cold would be too much for me now though. I skied into Zermatt once on this trip and then again a couple of years later whilst spending a holiday here with Eileen. Zermatt was quite different from Cervinia. Did you stay there? - Glad you enjoyed this.

So glad you enjoyed this one Rosa, that came to light again the other evening whilst watching one of our old holiday video 'slide' shows. The 'chair lift' is actually a ski tow. You effectively rest your backside on the wooden crosspiece with the vertical between your legs whilst holding the same vertical a little higher up as your feet, with your skis on, are pulled sliding on the snow, up the mountain side. Oh what fun - quite relaxing in the quiet, letting you immerse yourself in the landscape.

Impressive one-handed photography Herb............that's certainly an amazing view from up there. The mountains are really beautiful and I love the deep blue of the sky.

Aye not too bad considering. This was done with my Canon A1. That camera like my Olympus some time afterwards fitted nicely into one hand Great that you remembered the Matterhorn shot from previous Keith. Thanks a lot.
