An old 1989 slide from my skiing days. This time in Switzerland in the wonderful village of Wengen from where we went down into the valley on the little cogwheel train to Lauterbrunnen a few times. Here is a shot of the 300m-­high Staubbach Falls. Just a fine mist encircled by natural mist floating down from up high. ~ Taken with my Canon A1 SLR on Fuji.


Some minutes ago on this 4th of January, I hear on the BBC that temperatures in many of the Alps winter resorts were a hot 20C yesterday. One wonders where it will all end up. Will these snowy photos of bygone years be the last?

Hi Herb beautiful Image I had this same shot but in summer on slide but it deteriorated so much. We stayed in Wengen and visited Muron and Grindelwald.Thanks for the memories.

Thanks Gordon -more shared places here including Mürren and Grindlewald as you say. I went to Wengen four times in six years. I was most addicted to it and then the prices started to get prohibited and that was that. My pleasure to share these memories.

A very dramatic image Herb...............and the image quality from the slide is brilliant, which shows how good the original was.

I saw some clips on the BBC about the lack of snow in the Alps and other places, some of the resorts have to use snow machines 24/7 to keep the slopes open and the money coming in. I suspect things ain't getting better any time soon :-(

Ah Keith - the quality of the slide was much better but I am limited now by the scanner and age. Twas a great time to see those places. Yes, no fun in those resorts in winter when it is raining instead of snowing. I checked out the conditions a week or so back and there seemed ample snow on the tops but even then the forecast was for warmer days.

I skied in that region when I was still at school (over 60 years ago). We stayed in Lauterbrunnen. This brings back memories.

A wonderful area as you will will know then Francis. I loved the ski region there going up the mountains on the little trains to ski with exhilaration back down. I stayed three times in Wengen but my earliest recollection of Lauterbrunnen was a summer on did in my teens with my brother.
