Chania Busker

Chania Busker
Seen on the harbour front of Chania by the wall of the Firkas Fortress. As an accordeon player myself I am always interested to see and hear these buskers and only too willing to add a few coins to the collection.
Amazingly, as I was looking for a suitable piece of Greek accordion music to accompany this, I found the 'same person playing the exact same music too'. The video -no its not mine, gives a real insight of what this fellows daily life is like.

The real thing video. Enjoy full size.

Good to see you here Maurice. I suspect that he was once even better but playing in the streets does not improve your playing skills, only your ability to know what the punters go for. Was a great holiday.

A captivating image Herb.............nicely captured. I enjoyed the video too. It's amazing that nearly 2 years on he still has the same pitch by the wall. I bet he has some tales to tell :-)

Thanks Keith and like the other two visitors here, I am very happy that you followed his exploits in real video too. Yes, I wonder how long he has really been there -maybe many more years than two? This all went by too quickly for me, but my wife also managed to capture the real sound and movement on our video too and so I will be periodically seeing him from time to time. (at the moment there is a three year gap between repeat playbacks of our home-made holiday videos (including photo& music video), viewed one day a week ) we have so many. - Yes I bet he has seen a thing or two here.

A pity I don't remember the title of the tango.

Hi Daniela. Its called 'Waves of the Danube' and its actually a waltz. I know it sounds like a tango from the way he plays it :) This tune was also made quite famous as a song by Tom Jones called 'The Anniversary Song' -popular at many weddings some years back. The other French Musette style tune, I have heard before but I cannot put a name to it. It will no doubt come to me in the middle of the night :) - Glad you took the trouble to follow the link. ~ Herb

I am sure this guy is one of them.

Thanks Peter. When I was in Poland last year, I saw and heard buskers that were certainly professional musicians as their playing was so good. I hear many accordeon players and as a player myself with an extensive library of accordeon music I certainly know a good player from a bad. This fellows playing was not perfect but it was better than most that I hear from the streets. As said elsewhere, I have the feeling he was really good in his time. We never know with these buskers if they are suffering from any substance abuse etc which would no doubt affect their playing. Anyway, I liked his playing of that International music and gave a higher tip than usual for me :)
Cheers for the visit and thoughtful comment. Herb
