The West Infants school, St.Andrews

I attended this school from the ages of 4 - 6 years of age. My teacher was Miss Brown and she taught me how to write (on a slate), do simple arithmetic, and also how to knit.
It is now a job centre I think.

What a transformation from infants school to job centre! That's where people with no proper schooling end up;-)
I also remember slates from my early years and inkwells in the tables.

We didn't have inkwells here, nor at the Fishers School where we wrote in cursive style using pencils on special lined paper. It wasn't until I went to the Burgh School where we had double desks and inkwells, and the class was organized strictly on academic capability, with the slower learners right underneath the teacher's desk. Miss Grey climbed steps up to it, and was a fearsome figure!

The playground was huge in those days, or so I thought. ;-)

Since last weeks' Sunday challenge, I have been encouraged to do art again, and this morning I've spent a relaxed 2 hours in our local art group with a pencil and a paintbrush in my hand - after 22 years!

That sounds good fun, keep it up! I used to like drawing at school but never followed it up and now I don't want to anymore. My sister paints seriously and I wouldn't care for her comments;-)

It looks very old indeed. It's funny, I can remember the name of my first teacher (who also taught me to write using a slate) but not those for several years after.
