Oban Bay from McCaig's Tower

Lovely view from the folly! I must admit, I have been to Oban a few times, but have never been up there- shame on me...

It does look like an arena, Dany. The structure was commissioned, at a cost of £5,000 sterling by the wealthy, philanthropic banker John Stuart McCaig in 1897. He was the architect and his plans allowed for a museum and art gallery with a central tower to be incorporated. His death, aged 78, brought an end to construction with only the outer walls completed.

Very strange that it was not ended.

I think the family may have run out of enthusiasm for the project, Dany, or maybe money!

Whatever the reason for leaving McCaig's Tower as it was, Dany, it really stands out against the Oban sky; and the name McCaig is imprinted in the collective memory. :)
