    Monochromatic Orange - September, 2013
This past week was another catch-up week but with quilt guild obligations, I didn't get as far as I wanted, I fear. Still, one day at a time! I had two completions --- the July Bead Journal Project butterfly and the September Crazy Quilt Journal Project block: I stitched on the new blackwork piece, "Puppy Dog", and got an eye done: And at quilt guild, I finally cut and sewed strips for a quilt I promised to do way back in 2010 (it was called the "unstarted project" or USP)... It…

    September base block
I buckled down this week and tackled more WIPs which were tending to becoming UFOs... I completed the Take a Stitch Tuesday stitch. I kitted up the Crazy Quilt Journal Block for September: I assembled the block for "Bling it ON", the quilt retreat I stitched on "Midnight Garden" (only eight more border blocks to stitch in the two blues): and I completed the June BJP butterfly: Yet I'm still woefully behind... 2012 Color Palette/Crazy Quilt Jour…

    Lesson One complete
Wednesday and Thursday were no-stitching days (we were either on the way to, in, or on the way back from Stratford, Ontario to see some Festival plays) and Friday was a "recover-from-the-bus-trip" day, I didn't really stitch much this past week. It doesn't help that I apparently picked up some bug along the way between Stampaway/Cincinnati and Stratford because I have a dry cough that I cant kick. Besides TAST, I stitched on "Purple Daisy" and finished lesson 1 (lessons 2 and 3 are here alr…

Only a couple of nights beading on the June butterfly this past week --- and not a lot to show for it: Spent my free time watching the entire series 1 of "Endeavour" from start to finish... and am chuffed that there will be a series 2! But it sure plays havoc with my stitching time!

Gosh, am I ever sick of rain! 14 out of the last 16 days its rained at east a little, leading us to the 8th wettest June in local history (but July is still behind on water, possibly because the airport met station is in one of those "scattered shower" dry spots --- it sure feels wet enough here!). You'd think that would lead to more stitching on my part but mainly, it's insomnia coupled with the inability to keep awake during the daylight hours. So I have little progress to report on this week.…

    "Pink", for the fair, complete
I don't know where this week went! I KNOW I stitched but I don't have a lot to show for it. I seem to have gotten sidetracked into reading and sleeping late (because I can't get to sleep until late.) Oh, and the local HOA Girls' Night Out on Thursday didn't free up much stitching time either... Oh well, I did get in one completion --- the "pink" quilt block for the special "Pink" category for the fair: It's not as encrusted as I would have liked but I was stumped as to what to put on i…

Besides catching up with TAST, finishing the piece for the fair ("The Taco Sampler") and taking nine finished pieces to the framer on Saturday, I did squeeze in some stitching as well this past week. I managed to get the main part of the outer borders done for "Midnight Garden", as well as some of the black cross-stitched elements in the middle border: Ready for blackwork! I also put together a 12.5" block (12" finished) for the "Pink" category for the fair. It needs embellishment b…

I finally got in some stitching this week. My eyes sort of lose focus after a couple of hours, though and so I couldn't do long stretches of stitching. But the flashing and aching eye muscles appear to be a thing of the past (knock on wood). Besides TAST and finishing my May butterfly (have to get cracking on kitting up the June one), I put in a few stitches on the borders of "Midnight Garden": and started a piece for the fair's special category, "In the Kitchen". It's a Casey Buonaug…

    April 21, 2013
Despite having a week full of obstacles to stitchery (dilated eyes on Tuesday, absurdly early risings on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday), all of which made it impossible to focus properly on anything requiring counting and acute vision, I did manage to complete the weekly stitch for Take a Stitch Tuesday and the last mitten for "Mittens & Mini-Socks" early in the week! For International Hermit and Stitch weekend for April, I tackled the following works-in-progress, and while I didn't finish a…

    Flip
A busy week this week, trying to clear up lots of little ods and ends and I think I did pretty good with my list. I completed two Take a Stitch Tuesday "assignments",and my April Crazy Quilt Journal Project block, both posted earlier this week. But that's not all... Other completions are... The last sock for the Janet Perry "Mittens & Mini-socks" class. She called it "Ghosts of Flowers" but I don't have the right colors of threads to make the look she had so I went with a totally differe…

    Preliminary Design 2
A week of "catch-up and I actually got to a point where I was caught up on EVERYTHING but "Sumptuous Surface Embroidery! I played with a design for part two (color) of the exercise: The fabric I chose is an overdyed from Silkweaver which I have had for ages in my stash --- it's 32 ct linen but I don't think that will affect me as I'm used to that fabric and I love the feel of the piece. The color palette, influenced by the fabric, will be shades of blue and green with touches of yellow a…

    Mt. Fuji mitten
A productive week --- lots of smalls finished and progress made on some long-term WIPs. The completions already posted to this blog, were my March Crazy Quilt Journal Project Block, a mug rug for quilt guild, the Mt. Fuji sock for the "MIttens & Mini-Socks" online class, and the TAST stitch #58. An additional completion on March 17 was the matching mitten for Mt. Fuji: Progress made, an posted earlier, was the finish-finish of my Color Palette/Craay Quilt Journal, Bead Journal challeng…

In between an esophageal endoscopy (which pretty much wiped out Monday as a useful day - but so far as I know, this was also a positive result) and a mammogram (which really set my Wednesday off to a WONDERFUL start --- but at least it was a positive result!) which bracketed the first day of a nasty icy four day winter storm, I did manage to accomplish a little in the way of stitching. I did manage to get all the blackwork done on "Red Thai Mandala": All that is left now is a lot of l…

    February 24, 2013
This week has been focused on Take a Stitch Tuesday (Stitches 53 and 54 posted earlier), Red Thai Mandala (where the outer border is about half-finished: My contribution to the "Encrusted Crazy Quilting" class - week two, seam treatments: and a base block for my March Crazy Quilt Journal Project --- this one is red: Still mulling around a challenge idea for TAST and trying to work out a basic 12" block for Encrusted Crazy Quiltling. The class in "Sumptious Embroidery" from S…

    Fabric toss
This week sucked, stitchery-wise, as there were all sorts of "interruptions"! Monday waiting for the furnace inspector to come, Tuesday "Girls Night Out", Thursday quilt guild meeting, Friday an appointment with a general surgeon about my esophageal reflux, Sunday a luncheon where husband was elected to the Board of Friends of Wood County Parks - all of these interfered with my stitching schedule. Still, I did get some stitching done over the weekend for International Hermit and Stitch Weekend!…

    Monochromatic orange Febraury 2013
One completion this week... the February block for the 2013 Crazy Quilt Journal Project: And two WIPs... "Red Thai Mandala": and the February 2013 Bead Journal butterfly (the white areas will be beads...): Doesn't look like much but those beads are fiddly and take a lot of time, espciually when they decide to go skittering across the floor!

  • 2012 - A Year of Challenges - Week Forty-Nine

    - 08 Dec 2012
    Completed December 7, 2012
This week, in addition to the TAST already posted, I concentrated on Birds of a Feather and the December color palette/crazy quilt journal/bead journal project square. Given that the color palette challenge this month didn't quite "fit" with my other eleven squares, I deciede to do an alternate, based on the block 6 grid form from the "I dropped the Button Box Quilt" and six colors that were used more than once in the previous eleven blocks... Here is that alternate: The rest of my st…
