CMT20 Sunday challenge - How would you spend some me time?

HIKING IN THE WILD IS WHAT KEEPS ME BALANCED. LOVE THE SILENCE ONLY INHABITED BY THE WIND, THE TINY NOISES MADE BY BUGS AND OTHER LITTLE OR BIGGER ONES I TRY NOT TO DISTURB. LOOK AT VEGETATION, HOW IT GROWS AND REACTS TO THE SEASONS, I KNOW WHICH POPS UP IN WHICH SEASON SO I LOOK FOR THEM. WHEN SUN COMES DOWN I SIT IN A BOULDER TO ADMIRE LAST DAYLIGHTS LIKE IN THE PHOTO ABOVE. THEN I HURRY BACK BECAUSE THE WAYS ARE HARD AND TRICKY, EVEN IF I HAVE A SURE FOOT BETTER NOT DO IT WITHOUT ANY LIGHT...

UNFORTUNATELY EACH YEAR THERE ARE LESS AND LESS ANIMALS, BIG LIZARDS, SMALL ONES, PARTRIDGES, RABBITS AND HARES, FOXES, MONGOOSES... EVEN OTHER BIRDS DESERTED THE AREA SINCE "CLEVER" ECOLOGISTS INTRODUCED LYNXES... AND THOSE BLOODY WILD CATS KILL EVERYTHING, SOME EVEN ENTERED THE VILLAGE AT NIGHT TO KILL THE POULTRY. ONE DAY THERE WILL BE ONLY BOARS AND LYNXES, BUT MEN HUNT BOARS, NOT LYNXES, SO GUESS WHAT WILL BE LEFT? HOPE I WILL BE DEAD BY THEN NOT TO SEE IT...

A very nice picture, Isabel. The perspective is ideal for placing the moon between the plants. It is a pity that wildlife suffers so much from abandoned predators. It is not good to reintroduce predators if the local nature has done well without them. Often they are not allowed to be hunted either, so that they live completely without enemies and get the upper hand without regulation. It's the same for us with wolves.

In North Portugal "they" introduced wolves too, and as for lynxes they are protected and not allowed to be hunted. Shepherds see they herds decimated by packs of wolves and native wild horses population is decreasing dramatically because wolves eat the new born ones...

Being out in nature is perfect to put things in perspective!
Sorry to hear that lynxes are causing havoc, by their behaviour it seems this isn't the right area for them. They are no problem in Germany with its many woods and deer, but as Karsten writes we are having problems with too many wolves....

Point is some species when protected loose their natural predators and become over-predating...

I suppose it's all about keeping things in balance and when lynxes have eaten all wild animals and start on domestic animals the balance is defiitely off!

A lovely sunset image with the silhouetted vegetation and moon, Isabel. Thankfully lynxes have not been introduced here, but feral cats and foxes kill our smaller wildlife in massive numbers.

I saw on National Geographic Australia has an issue with feral cats killing native species. Some years ago they had lynxes in Doñana National Park... their population was controlled. Some ecologists decided to set some free in our area, they are adapted... to eliminate other species that were already thriving to survive. Ten years ago we could meet lots of animals mentioned in my comment while hiking, now... almost none.

We also have wild dogs, the dingoes, a danger to livestock, and occasionally, to humans, not to mention the other predators, pythons, and snakes in general. Every year we learn of various species becoming extinct, a never ending evolution.

Hi Isabel. That looks idyllic. It sounds as if the lynxes are creating an issue. I know the Iberian lynx was very endangered but I thought the reintroduction had been better managed.
Here we have all manner of ferals making problems. About 10 million feral cats, uncountable millions of rabbits. Millions of feral goats. About 3 million feral camels. Donkeys. Buffaloes. Cane toads. Our wildlife and habitats are really threatened by all these imports which have escaped and bred up so much. We even export Camels to Saudi Arabia as the genetics of our ferals are better than the captive breeds in the Gulf States.
Keep well. Sending love xxxx

Triste écologie d'idéologie ... On a les mêmes en France
Ils ont empêché la création de coupe- feu dans les Landes pour préserver la forêt... la suite se devine ; cet été la forêt a brûlé .. plus de forêt

We have coyotes in our neighborhood that keep the rabbit population down. They also take domestic cats and the occasional small dog left alone in a yard.

We don't have much rabbits any longer, year after year less and less... Problem for small dogs are a couple of Royal eagles hunting in the area...
