Valentine & Sons card no. 105,146.
Posted at Winnipeg Canada Station 3 on Feb. 27, 1910.
"Dear Myrtle: Have been waiting for a card for a long time. I have sent two since I heard from you last. Lill got your card today and was glad to hear from you. I suppose you are busy now. I am that busy that I do not know what I'm doing. I suppose there is quite a few people in Bolingbroke now. I guess I can't get any more on this card. From Pim."
To Miss Myrtle Norris, Bolingbroke, Ont., Canada

Unused Valentine & Sons card, no. 111,995 (so not from the same series as the others -- a rather late Valentine actually).
7127. Greetings from Canada - Manitoba
|
|
This is a Valentine's Series card from the British Valentine company rather than the Canadian. The Manitoba shield opens out to reveal a long strip of miniature monochrome images (12 in all) showing scenes in Manitoba. These appear mostly to be common Valentine & Sons card images.
The poetic lines are from the opening of the second verse of "O Canada!" (now the national anthem).

Valentine & Sons, no. 100,335. Unusual to have a white border on one of these cards.
Addressed to Miss Myrtle E. Carle of East Florenceville, N.B.

Unused coloured RPPC. See the separate image of the back, which indicates that it is published by PECO but also uses the Valentine's branding.

This Photogelatine (PECO) back appears to be from the 1930s and incorporates the Valentine logo. I was unaware of this collaboration before (or co-branding or whatever it was), but I don't generally collect much from this era.

Valentine & Sons no 103,386 ... Portage Ave. East. This one interests me because it shows a lot of autos and seems to be from a later date than you'd expect for a Valentine & Sons card in the 103.xxx series. I wonder if it is a replacement for an earlier view with the same title. (Just speculating) [edit 2022 -- very astute speculation!]

Valentine & Sons no. 105,831. I probably already have this somewhere but noted the Consolidated Stationery Co. sign on the side of the Telegram Building, plus the demolition of the building next to it, to allow for the extension of the building on the left, which is now much longer and taller, I believe.
