Naxos/Kykladen - Die Portara
Im 6. Jh. BC hatte der Tyrann Lygdamis, der damals über Naxos herrschte, einen wahrhaft ehrgeizigen Plan: er wollte sich selbst zu Ehren und zu Ehren des Gottes Apollon auf der Naxos vorgelagerten kleinen Insel den größten Tempel Griechenlands errichten. Die Geschichte hat es anders gewollt: Lygdamis ( ein Gefolgsmann Athens ) wurde von den Spartanern aus dem Amt gejagt und der Tempel blieb unvollendet. Später waren die Steine sehr beliebt als Material für den Hausbau im Hauptort. Was übrig blieb, ist das Tempeltor: knapp 6m hoch und 3,65m breit; jede der Tempelpfosten wiegt ca. 25 Tonnen. Heute ist er das Wahrzeichen Naxos‘: am Tag beliebtes Ziel diverser Ferienmalgruppen und am Abend pilgern Fotographierende in Massen mit ihren Stativen auf die Palatia, um den Sonnenuntergang abzulichten. - Ein Scan von 2002
