The guardians

The guardians
HFF from a very remote high altitude village in North Pakistan. The ‘fence’ is one side of a long vehicle suspension bridge across the high up headwaters of the young Indus River. The bridge has seen better days. These local villagers take turns to bang down the nails along the bridge bed every time a vehicle crosses. I see them as the gatekeepers of the village!

May your Friday be fine and cheerful, and your weekend filled with things which make you very happy.

Ernst Doro, Gudrun, Gabi Lombardo, Berny and 41 other people have particularly liked this photo

An interesting image and information, Diana. I'm fascinated that the nails need hammering after every vehicle, this bridge sounds very tired indeed. HFF and I hope you and John have a great weekend. Big huggss. X

Danke, dein Foto erinnert daran, dass in vielen Teilen der Welt Brücke die wertvollsten Gebäude sind, die mit um so größerer Sorgfalt erhalten werden, je älter und gefährdeter sie sind. HFF für dich!

It seems to be a bit of an 'Ad Hoc' arrangement. What if there is an illness that causes the volunteers to be off sick? is the bridge closed? More to the point, did you cross here, Diana? ;-)

Diana Australis club has replied to Amelia club
Of course I crossed here! They are wooden suspension bridges, large enough to take vehicles into these remote areas. They swing about a bit while crossing, and on older ones there can be holes and loose planks, which the movement of a crossing vehicle loosens further. They are the only access to tiny, very remote valleys and villages. Essential to keep functioning! ;-)
