Mother and child
Orangutans in the wild at Semenggoh Rehabilitation Centre. Sarawak. Borneo
Highly endangered in the wild owing to habitat loss. They are 20 meters up in the forest. Mum has a piece of coconut in her right foot. The baby was incredibly relaxed while mum hung and climbed. The animals here have been rescued, usually as juveniles, either from illegal captivity or as orphans when mothers die in logging operations. They are taught survival skills and released...but sometimes choose to return and visit for the fruits on offer when the jungle is not in fruiting season.
