Jellyfish

Jellyfish
These jellyfish were swimming around in the Fremantle Boat Harbour. From a quick search, I'm fairly sure these are a species commonly called a "Jimble" , found around the southern coasts of Australia. Those long tails can sting, but although that can be painful it is not dangerous (unlike some tropical species).

They're usually not a problem, Stephan. Just have a good look and do what others do.

Thanks Roger. I wouldn't go in while they're around, but most times it's OK.

Good that the sting is not too dangerous George. A super shot. I could spend hours watching them :-)

If they're around, watching is the best thing to do, Rosa. Swimming is not usually a problem.

Many thanks indeed, Jose. Yes, when in the water it is indeed much harder to see them.

They are fascinating! Australian jellyfish would scare me, and I don't trust myself to tell the difference between them! Well. moot point, I can't travel these days! ;-(
Recently read an article about a young man who suffered fpr weeks and almost died. Don't remember the name of the jellyfish.

The jellyfish in the southern states aren't usually much of a concern, Diane. Usually, it's just a matter of following the lead of other swimmers. The tropical species though, which only appear at certain times of the year, can often be deadly.
