A Little Wattlebird nesting in the shrubs in our front yard, seen here among the grevillea flowers (they are nectar eaters). Best viewed large. Over recent days the chicks also have been making an appearance - a rather indifferent shot of one in the PiP.

Explored.

Beautiful portrait, George! And I would not call the one of the chick in the PIP "indifferent" at all! Even if it lacks the glamour of the red flowers, it catches the little one in a fun, intent pose and the lightly on the vegetation is really nice.
Hope you are having (had?) a nice Sunday!

Thank you very much, Annalia. Yes, there's just time for another glass of wine before calling it a night. :-) I hope your Sunday is going well.

P.S. The blackbird chicks have been accompanying the adults in my garden too and this morning there was a big hub-but about a marauding cat. Mr. Blackbird was worried out of his wits and chirping non stop alarm calls to his family. So I went down to the garden and my appearance was enough to scare off the stray cat. I fell pretty confident that I gained quite a few points as far as the blackbirds are concerned :D

Well done and full points from me too. Cats are dreadful predators - estimated to kill over 1 million birds daily across Australia and I dare say it's similar in other places. I don't mind people having cats as pets, but they do need to stop them wandering.

Although currently cat-less, I am a cat lover myself and predators have their place in Nature too. But, hey, this is MY blackbird family are talking about! :)

An outstanding capture George, Lovely sharp detail and I love the colours of the flowers pictured around the bird like a lovely pink nest! A lovely glimpse of the baby bird in the PiP. Happy Sunday and stay well.

Those are nice George. Our birds are all going mad, building nest at the start of our sunny Springtime. In a wall covered with ivy and clematis which we can see quite clearly from our dining room we have a blackbird, robin and tree sparrow all nesting. I think the blackbird is sat on eggs. Normally they nest high in our big trees but the magpies wiped out all their young last year. maybe this new low sheltered position will be safer. In front of our conservatory -a little higher we have a small lawn with a small old classic single tiered fountain (was a wedding present for our old pond in another house) - the lovely wide water saucer with a central water-bearer statue never held water for more than an hour as the stone is very porous. Over the last few days I have water proofed that and today I watch our small birds drinking, bathing and generally just playing in the water sometimes six to eight at a time. I could have done this years ago - now a regret!

In that we can see birds like this George, we are truly blessed compared with most of the worlds population.

Take care. Herb

He is very beautifully marked, George, and I love the colour of those grevillea flowers.
