Going back in time

Going back in time
Along the road from the previous image. Back in the 1860s gold rush, Chinese miners built a Joss House here - long since gone. Between the fence and the tree stumps are the remains of a stone structure, which has a pit where they apparently roasted whole pigs. The PiP shows the pit.
HFF, and have a great weekend, everyone.

Explored.

Great picture! I didn't realize Australia had a gold rush too. One learns so much on Ipernity.

Thanks, Sarah. Sigwv (below) is quite right. Although there had been isolated findings of gold here, it wasn't until 1851 that our gold rushes started - with many miners coming from California.

My understanding is that quite a few frustrated 49ers ended up in Australia when they didn't strike it rich in California!

Spot on, Steve. The gold rushes began here in 1851, when a miner with California experience began poking around and turned out a find which kicked things off.

Nice choice for sepia here, I had to look up Joss House--a temple--and thought that was very interesting. Thanks for the inset too. I am enjoying your show!
