Corfe Castle, Dorset.

Corfe Castle, Dorset.
Corfe Castle has been part of the Purbeck landscape for nearly a thousand years. Built by William the Conqueror in the eleventh century, it remained a Royal castle until the reign of Elizabeth I until it was destroyed in the English Civil War. It is still a wonderful sight, towering above the village of Corfe Castle.

It is always nice to see such testimonies of previous generations or cultures.
At the same time, however, it is also depressing.
Since the clash of Neanderthals and Homo sapiens, there have been wars.
The recent past and the present are no better.
I'm afraid the race man will never learn to live in peace on this planet - unfortunately...

These ruins are truly impressive and steeped in history.

In addition, this castle had to be even more imposing before its destruction !!!!!!

A spectacular ruin, Rosa. I love the wee wispy clouds. I love also the very interesting information you have provided. I seem to remember you photographed a station and this castle was in the background. Cheers, Joe

Fotografías con buen encuadre, color y distintas focales, que en tres instantáneas actuales, tras el paso de incontables hojas del calendario, atestiguan este castillo dentro de la historia.

Thank you for your kind comments Jose Manuel. Quite a grim history at times. It's good to visit what is left in peace, and has a beautiful view across the Dorset countryside.

I first visited Corfe Castle in the early fifties and haven't seen it since the early sixties. So it is lovely to have your excellent images to remind me of the stature of these old ruins. Thank you Rosa ~ Stay Safe

As kids we would often pass the castle when my father was taking us to Swanage for the day. It used to amaze me, so high on the hill. There is more remaining than it looks and many chances to view the surrounding countryside. Take care and have a good evening Nick.

It's been around 10 years since I last visited these beautiful ruins.........when I was there for a sunrise shoot.

The castle still looks splendid..........especially on a sunny day like you had. I like the perspective in the main image and the ruins look stunning against the sky. The detail you've captured is excellent.

I like the wider view in the PiPs as well.........it's good to see people getting out and enjoying themselves. Great work as always.

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Keith Burton club
Did you get the sunrise shot Keith? I would love to see it if you did.
Thank you for your kind comments on all three pictures. It was very hot, so after a nice pub lunch there was nothing for it but to travel the 5 miles to Studland Bay!!

I did indeed: www.ipernity.com/doc/keithburton/19472023/in/album/363229

It was a very misty morning and i got half a dozen shots I was happy with. I'd like to go back and do it again someday, but I don't think I'd be able to manage the climb up the near vertical hill again to get above the castle.......it nearly killed me then - I remember lying on my back in the dew covered grass wheezing for breath :-))

Thanks for the link Keith. A superb shot. We noticed where people had been climbing the hill. No way could I do that!

Hi Rosa
I like this set of pictures very much!
It is a very different and exciting composition. It is amazing how two people can go to the same place, and interpret it so differently. Very beautiful indeed!

Hi Peter,
Thank you for your kind comments. I did get a picture of the steam train and of the diesel train as well, with I will upload next week. Thanks for the link. I enjoyed looking through them. It was very hot on this visit, so went onto Studland for a bit of sea air.
Take care and have a good weekend,
Rosa.

Beautiful images and information

These days the builders knock down a building and builds new apartments. Probably those days, after the war, they had to knock down anything the looser had. Once I watched David Attenborough say, we humans are viruses of the earth, of course he was talking metaphorically!
