Instantly recognisable Rosalyn, we have visited Ely three times even though we are just over 1/2 hour drive away and three times we were unable to get inside the Cathedral because of filming.

I have been there 3 times as well Maurice. We could have gone in the Cathedral, but it wasn't my mums sort of thing. We just admired it's beauty from the outside. A lovely area around the Cathedral.

A nice reminder of past times for you Rosalyn if I have been to Cambridge Botanic Gardens and have had enough of the crowds Ely is relativity peaceful, enjoy your day

Thank you very much Peter. We stayed in Mildenhall for the week, in a lovely hotel. We enjoyed the week immensely and thought Cambridge was beautiful.

I enjoyed reading the info in the link. Whatever your opinion of Cromwell, as an MP he fought for what he believed in............which is more than can be said of most MPs today who fight for what is best for them, their cronies and their bank balances.........and who change their beliefs at the drop of a hat!

A super 'blast from the past', Rosa!

I agree Rosalind, Ely is a nice little city and it is quite close to where I live. I really enjoy a drive over the Fens and seeing the Cathedral on the horizon. There was a time I drove on bus routes in the area - a most enjoyable time.

I always enjoyed our visits to your area David. After my father died I always made sure mum had a holiday every year and we loved our coach trips. They were great fun and we met some lovely people. Thank you for your kind comments.

Thank you Gudrun. Maybe the council had not bought Cromwell's house at the time you visited. Ely has a very impressive Cathedral. I expect you saw it. I will dig out a photo :-)

Yes, we visited the Cathedral and saw what Cromwell's men did to the Lady Chapel....

You have seen more than me then Gudrun. We didn't go inside the Cathedra. Something to do another time hopefully.
