Visited here in 2015 it was so good to see the apes safe at last but sad that they are held in captivity, But at least getting all the love and attention they so deserve. See Link

For as long as animals are mistreated there is a need for rescue centres. As you say, they are loved in this one. A far better place than from where they came.

Beautifully captured. Superb sculptures. They look as if they are having a dialogue. I wish we focused on the good people in the world more and on the kindness. Sometimes one almost forgets how much there is.

Thank you Malik. All the monkeys have a story and you can read about them on the way around the enclosures, which are huge. A much better place than their previous lives in captivity.

I met him a couple of times in the early days of the rescue centre Pam. So sad that he died of cancer and so young. Yes, I agree, a real hero.

It is sad Nick but they are certainly looked after well in the recue centre and have a lot of room to roam around, all very cleverly connected by tunnels overhead. I love watching the apes swing from tree to tree.

Thank you George. Yes it is a wonderful place, and it must be remembered that they have all been rescued from the exotic animal trade and laboratories worldwide.

I can't believe it's been that long since he died............I remember watching him on the TV in the earlier years of the Monkey World programme. He seemed completely dedicated to his work as his wife (now widow).

I note that Maurice mentioned it was sad that they're in captivity - but the sad fact is that after the way most of them were treated before they were rescued, they would never be able to survive in the wild :-(

I remember those TV programmes and he often had to answer so called animal rights people who do little more than complain! Never seem to go after the perpetrators of the exotic animal trade. You are right, many would not survive in the wild, but they have so much room to roam in the centre and lots of areas are connected by tunnels. There are Capuchins that were rescued from Chile, kept in small cages for experiments. There are before and after pictures. In fact, they all have a story!

Here the monkey seems to be so grateful to his savior...and you were very good at capturing this silent dialogue in a glorious light!
These centres fortunately do still exist . I remember visiting one for orphan elephants in Sri Lanka. I never forgot when the little ones were fed and when I finally could stroke one of them!

You describe it beautifully dear Adele. I found it very moving, as I had met the man twice in the early days of the rescue centre, when we just made a donation to visit the site. So sad that he died so young. He married the right lady, as she is carrying on the good work. What a wonderful experience you had in Sri Lanka. Elephants are going through a though time...they are so intelligent and beautiful.

A fine pair of shots here Rosa and a lovely tribute to Jim Cronin. I have only seen Monkey World on the television but the work they do never fails to impress.

It is a wonderful place to visit Doug. I met Jim Cronin in the early days of the rescue centre. He was a lovely man. At that time they just took donations to enter, but it has grown so much now.

Thank you so much dear Günter. I met him several times and he died far too young. His wife and daughter now run Monkey World. I'm so pleased they carried it on and have given a home to so many ill treated primates.
