Three pictures taken in the centre of Sturminster Newton and a link to a superb video shot by CBS TV America of Sturminster Newton Mill. If you take a look view to the end...it made me laugh!

Cor blimey, Rosa, did that CBS reporter say, "Only in England, can you find a thousand-year old flour mill."? He obviously hasn't been to Scotland. Cheers, Joe

You should hear the way tourists from the US pronounce Edinburgh. Don't even mention Kirkaldy . LOL.

I saw Garry Puckett (remember The Union Gap?) in theatre in Weymouth a few years ago and he was having a joke at how they pronounce the town name and how we do. LOL!!

What a lovely looking set of buildings.................and just the sort of places you imagine when you think about the English countryside - thatched roofs, part-timbered, quirky shaped and even little Union flags flying!

All very nicely captured in great depth and detail Rosa. I love the traditional fruit and veg shop!

I loved the video in the link................the American presenting style is a bit over the top for me though :-))

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Keith Burton club
It's a lovely little town Keith. They even have a Theatre called The Exchange and they have some great well known acts there. I only hope it survives this dreadful period.

Thank you for your kind comments. Just to the left of the fruit and veg shop is a good electrical shop and near that is a great butchers and deli who sell the locally milled flour.

Glad you liked the link cor blimey!

It's a beautiful village. I love the thatched roofs. There are occasional ones in Scotland but they can't compare with the beautiful ones in England
3 years ago.
Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Jean
Thank you for your kind comments Jean. The centre of the small town has not changed very much, but they used to have the largest livestock market in Europe. Now sadly gone, but a superb theatre has taken its place. They also have a fabric & crafts warehouse and a kitchenware warehouse....that's why I am often over there :-))
Jean has replied to Rosalyn Hilborne club
The history of places like this is always so surprising. Hard to imagine what it must have been like with the largest market in Europe. And how quickly the traces vanish. I would definitely like the crafts warehouse.

They have a lovely memorial to the market days, but my pictures were disappointing. I'm determined to get better ones next time I'm there.

The museum is a lovely building very Lilliput Lane !!! Some one must make a living finding these stories for them , maybe Leicester will be next for them now that the sweat shops that have been known about for donkey's years have suddenly been discovered

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Peter Castell club
I think they got the story from The One Show and it was also briefly on the national news Peter. I just heard on the radio news that the places you mention are being looked into. Sounds about time too. Have a nice day. Sophie's last day at school yesterday, so she's visiting me today.

They did a good job of the filming I thought Pam. You would love the town. They have a material and craft warehouse, a kitchenware warehouse and a great little camera shop, all within walking distance of the town. The camera shop is actually in the centre.
