Even when I lived in Kent - about 30 miles from London, I never went into St Martin-in-the-Fields. I wish I had now - seeing this gorgeous ceiling.

For decades I've enjoyed my local classical music station playing music recorded by the St. Martin-in-the-Fields orchestra. I had non idea it was at Trafalger square. So when we saw it, we had to go in!

The ceiling was amazing to be under.

With music from the Academy? ;-)
Another look that makes us see it from the point of view of its harmoniously and softly set curves. Behind which his supporting role fades away. Interesting, Laura.

raingirl club has replied to Eric Desjours club
Yes! Though sadly they didn't play the Academy music in the cafe. I hadn't known about St. Martin-in-the-Fields except that the academy made wonderful recordings of music. It was such fun to be at the location itself.

Thank you for your thoughtful look at my photo. Each way I looked (up towards the ceiling) had another photo opportunity.

You are so kind, Keith. Thank you. I couldn't stop looking up at it. The curves and light and the age of it all, all that history creating art.

How interesting that they have a cafe there now. Great texture and detail.

raingirl club has replied to Gillian Everett club
Thank you. And the cafe? It was an odd thing to have there, and noisy and crowded - but I felt the photo brought out the sense of history of the place. I would have thought they would have a history display in at least part of that large space, but no.

Mathematicians have finally found a solution to the problem of how to cover an infinite area with just one tile shape without repeating the pattern. But this historic masonry also looks like this.

Die Einstein-Kachel
