Our beach only has a couple of breakwaters to stop the protective bank of shingle moving about. So after high tides in rough weather the shingle has to be moved from the ends of the beach, where it has collected against the breakwaters, to the middle that has become exposed. This is apparently more cost-effective than building breakwaters. There are currently at least four big articulated dumper trucks, a bulldozer and a bucket loader working on this all day.

.. reminds me of Florida when the Gulf Beaches on Anna Maria Island needed 'renourishment'
.. business owners could participate, of course they had to pay
.. those who did not participate, soon regretted it
.. hurricanes will take your sand -- don't care who you are -- but at least some lost less amounts than those 'saving money'
.. next time around -- they participated !
