Added to Vintage Photos Theme Park - not quite a dog sitting on a chair, but nearly. The dog on the table seems have only one eye and the other looks pretty exhausted. Perhaps this military family had taken pity on a couple of local cast-offs.

haha. They do look a little mangy - especially in contrast to the smartly turned out family! That baby is wailing away, isn't it?!

I hadn't spotted the unhappy baby. Didn't we have a theme with someone looking unhappy?

I'm surprised that they were able to get the little dog to stand like that long enough to snap the picture!

(P.S. SOMEONE IS NOT HAPPY - Pouting, scowling, etc.--a theme from last October!)

Phil, would this have been a photo your ancestor made? I find it surprising that a sergeant would be permitted to have his family accompany him on an overseas tour. I have to assume these assignments must have been quite lengthy.

In the colonial days the British garrisons were very extensive communities in some places. If you look at the histories of the Indian and South African colonies and the conflicts within them, you will find many accounts of families of servicemen and colonial officials caught up in battles, sieges and massacres. On a lighter note they seem to have had fun at times - www.ipernity.com/doc/philsutters/26369383/in/album/1205816
