(Note to HFF friends. I’m not sure whether these can be classified as fences. Structurally and aesthetically they are almost the same, but functionally they are quite different. No matter. If you think they should be kicked out of the group I don’t mind. ’S a nice photo though, innit? Biggen it up to see it better.)

John... the place reminds me so much of some of the beaches of my youth !

The breakwaters were always a place to shelter from the wind !

Hi Pam, it's just to the south of the beaches of *my* youth. We've just been over in England and took my 89 year old mum to the east coast for a few days, looking round the places she took me when I was a child. Oh my, how things have changed on the Yorkshire coast; but the nostalgia was worth the trip.

If it looks like a fence, stands up like a fence, and is constructed of timber like a fence, then it probably is a fence.
It is a good photograph irrespective of the fence/groyne thing.
