Taken at the end of January when the average sea temperature was between 4.8C and 7.2C, this man had just finished a swim and was drying off in the shelter! I was wearing several layers of clothing plus a hat and gloves. It was very cold and the wind was icy.

I know cold water swimming is supposed to be good for you.......but no thanks :-))

Happy Bench Monday everyone. Thank you to all of you who have visited my photo-stream over the past week especially if you've left a comment and\or a yellow star. Much appreciated.

I hope you all have a good week!

Tanja - Loughcrew, Jean Paul Capdeville, Diane Putnam, Jörg and 28 other people have particularly liked this photo

Brrrrrr, man muss schon abgehärtet sein und viel innere Hitze haben, es sei denn, man kommt direkt aus der Sauna.

It's not for me either Keith! It doesn't look like it has done him much good either, by the look on his face...or is that just because he saw you with a camera ;-))
Excellent Monday picture!! HBM and good new week.

Can't say I blame you Rosa. I'm not sure if he saw me or not, but he didn't seem bothered either way.

Each year on Exmouth beach (covid permitting), hundreds of people turn out for an Xmas day swim. My daughter and the grandchildren have done it a couple of times! Not me or Jackie though........our job is to hold the towels and clothes and provide flasks of hot chocolate for when they come out!

He must have a heated swimming costume, that's why he's not cold!

What a hardy soul Keith. Not for me either. I just read Rosa's comment - it amused me to think the man could brave the elements to swim in icy conditions but didn't want to face the camera!!!

HBM and a good new week to you

We hear about folk like this Keith. I always think they are mad but we ourselves witnessed such a dip in our local Dovestones reservoir last week by a gang of ladies. As always well composed and captured here. Thanks for sharing.

HBM, enjoy the day. Herb

Thanks Herb. To be honest, it's a fairly common sight in Portsmouth. I've never been tempted though :-)))

Apparently the body gets used to it over time and it makes the heart stronger..............I'm still not tempted though :-))

I suspect he is colder there than when in the sea but I wouldn’t want to find out for myself

Well spotted and captured. Good tension between the swimmer and the people bundled up against the cold, and between the bright uyellow shelter and its drab surroundings.

Fabulous shot, Keith! Oooh, he's beet red! Probably very happy about it, though. I say a big NOPE to that activity, I'll forfeit the questionable "benefits" to my health!

Ha, ha..............this is a fairly common sight in Southsea...........all year round. There are a lot of tough people I think (male and female) and mostly elderly.
