The Treadgold Fish (+ 3 PiPs)

The Treadgold Fish (+ 3 PiPs)
This fish-shaped sculpture (based on Portsmouth's star and crescent motif), is known as the Treadgold Fish and has been made from scrap metal from Treadgold's, a local scrap metal merchant. It has been travelling round the city collecting plastic bottles as part of the War on Plastic for a few years now. It is currently located on the promenade near Southsea Pier.

The PiPs show close up images of the plastic waste.

Please view large, on black. Thank you.

I took a photo of this when it was still fairly new (and in better weather) back in 2019 which you can see here: www.ipernity.com/doc/keithburton/49238884

Annalia S., Colin Ashcroft, Dimas Sequeira, Ronald Losure and 21 other people have particularly liked this photo

I've walked past this many times Keith. Always makes a statement about the huge amount of plastic debris that is produced. Nicely photographed!

I photographed it on the common in 2017, but hadn't spotted it again until this day. No idea where it's been in between.

Glad you like my shot though. Thanks Ed.

Thanks for the link Keith. I remember that one and I think this shot is just as good.
It is a good reminder to use less plastic, which is not easy after all these years of
practically everything coming in plastic containers, but I consciously buy as little as
possible in it. A super sculpture and a good set.

Have a great weekend Keith.

Thanks Rosa..............the amount of plastic that gets discarded never seems to get smaller :(

Glad you like the shot though.

A novel scheme and idea there Keith... I see a 'filling hole' to pop the bottles in - but how do they fill it conpletely - to the head and tail ? rock it ? // Keep well and go steady - from Dj.

There are filling holes each side and at each end........and if your aim is good enough you could throw bottle into it's "mouth". I think it's the bottles being pushed in at the lower levels that force the contents to rise to the top!

Thank you so much for all your generous and positive comments. Us humans are still discarding far to much plastic waste into the environment..............and it's about time Governments across the world worked out what to do with it all..!!

Great shots with terrific detail and a brilliant idea Keith although it looks like a few non plastic items have made it through,
So many items that come from supermarkets are in unnecessary plastic trays which I personally find annoying.

Thank you very much Roger.......I'm always chuffed when you like my photos......much appreciated.

The supermarkets have a lot to answer for..............they promise the earth and come up with very little. During our weekly shop this last week we found swede shrink-wrapped in plastic as well as broccoli................why!

What a great idea! It has certainly made a lovely work of art out of what would have been a load of rubbish! I really love this piece!
