Benbow Pond - Bench and Folly

Benbow Pond - Bench and Folly
Taken yesterday on the Cowdray Estate, Nr Midhurst, West Sussex. The little green thing in the water is a duck house.

The folly was built as a memorial to the Third Viscount of Cowdray who died in 2000.

Andy Rodker, Tere79 Sa, Ernest CH, Gudrun and 17 other people have particularly liked this photo

A wonderful little Bench...and a wonderful place to sit there...is it an oak tree?
No snow in sight Keith?
Have a wonderful weekend and all the best ;)

Yes, an Oak and sadly, snow is pretty rare on the south coast of England.

Perfect framing with the sculptural tree Keith. I particularly like the Lutyen bench, and the colours in the sky are beautiful, giving a lovely reflection. Thanks you also for the information. I reckon it's an oak isn't it?

Yes Rosa, it's an oak tree. I didn't know it was a Lutyen bench though...........I learn something new on IP every day!

Yummy, yummy, yummy!!! What's not to love about this picture! I tell you, sometimes it's like you've placed all the items necessary for an awesome shot! :) Perfect bench...perfect tree...perfect water...perfect bushes...perfect twinkling water...perfect ducky house, and perfect folly! LOL...PERFECT! Hey, what's a "folly"? I shall look it up after I'm done with the word of the day in regards to you: PERFECT! :)

Janet you guessed! I carry loads of props around with me in a large trailer. It's always a problem with the live animals and birds though :-))

Ah, here we are! :D

"In architecture, a folly is a building constructed primarily for decoration, but suggesting through its appearance some other purpose, or of such extravagant appearance that it transcends the range of garden ornaments usually associated with the class of buildings to which it belongs." ~ Wiki

Nicely composed winter image Keith, the light on bough is beautiful and makes the excellent composition even better, amazing how many places have follies money was certainly no object to the few.

An idyllic place. I would like to sit on the beautiful bench under the gnarled tree and look across the pond to the small pavilion.

Thanks Susanne. I did sit for a while, but it was freezing - I'll give it another go in the summer :-))

Was für ein schöner Platz! Mir gefällt der Standort der Bank unter der mächtigen Eiche und der Blick zum anderen Ufer. Dir ist eine wunderbare Komposition gelungen, Keith!

I could not conceive with the mind, such an attractive site. That tree is a prodigy and the environment really pleasant. I would sit down to read a book while I listen to the frogs sing.

Thanks for your kind comments Anton.........I would sit there and read a book too, but not until summer time..!!

The old oak, the bench and the folly all add to a very successful composition!
The duckhouse reminds me of the scandal many years ago when a Tory MP had an elaborate duckhouse for his garden pond built on expenses;-)

A belated thank you Gudrun.

I remember that story - one of many outrageous claims..!!
