The Sunday Challenge - Souvenirs

The Sunday Challenge - Souvenirs
Mount Rushmore - 2005 South Dakota USA

What a powerful statement that can only really come from rock. I wondered why we don't do anything like this now? Such a vision at a time when it must have been very hard to do, but they went ahead and did it anyway. All the work that went into it was so inspiring. I remember the smell was so soft and interesting. Such an aromatic walk in the heat. The hike up the trail was so much fun with many twists and turns. My son collected some golden sand from the hiking trail and I placed it with our souvenirs along with a picture I took.

nicely done montage, like the contrast of the gold against the mono, and the DoF makes the picture look like a real background

Cool composition! The black and white and gold work great together! I tried several tunnel photographs of the monument when I was there, but it wasn't easy dodging all of the motorcycles racing through them. We were there during the Sturgis rally.

Thanks so much Norm. That would have been a nice shot if you could have gotten it, but I know it gets crazy during the whole Sturgis thing. My husband used to build choppers, but he hates crowds so we went the weekend after the rally and got to tour Harley Museum in peace and quiet.

Yes ... and I was still shooting film then. Much harder to take quick shots! We wouldn't have been there then, but the weather in Glacier had been really bad and we came back early.

Thanks Val. It's really worth it. Take some good walking shoes though because it is a good hike up to see it.
