The Devil's Tower - Wyoming USA 2005

Ever since I saw the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", back in the 70s when it came out, I was so intrigued with the Devil's Tower. I was so curious that it was an actual place that you could go and see and not just create with your mashed potatoes.... I got my chance in 2005 and brought back this alien skull.

Cool composition! Love it! Quite the tourist stop! My daughter and I got out our hiking boots to hike around the base of it, but with the asphalt trail that was there ... we could have rollerbladed around it!

You must have been there more recently then. The trail wasn't paved when we were there. That would be fun to roller blade around it. It was so hot that day (around 100 degrees) and then the next day we were in Yellowstone Nat'l Park and it was snowing. Pretty big change in weather.

It was the summer of 1996. It was pretty hot then too. We went from there to Glacier National Park where it snowed on us.

Oh so you were there before we went... I guess I'm just not remembering the paved walkway. Sounds like we had a similar experience with the weather! That was pretty amazing. :D

This is a great composition! You've captured it's mystery and the intrigue of the place well. Like you, I, too, enjoyed the movie when it came out in 1977. In fact, it's one of my favorite movies still. I always wanted to go and see it, but haven't made it yet. My sister got to see and she brought me a postcard. Like the people in the movie who feel compelled to paint the Tower, I also have done some painting of it.

Thank you so much. Do you think the movie is still good Kenny? It's probably been over 20 years since I've seen it. How cool that you've painted it.
