Blue Rice Pony

Thanks, Peter! I used my antique horsey cookie cutter to leave the pattern in the rice.

It was a complicated setup. I posed the blue rice on a clear plate, around my horsey cookie cutter. I then raised the plate off of a reflective white background on the floor by using 3 spice bottles of the same height and then carefully removed the cookie cutter. After that, with the lights out and a 20 second timed exposure, I bounced a flash unit off the white background from below the plate three times, once between each opening in the spice bottles. I allowed the light to overexpose everything so that it showed through the rice. I wanted it to be seen very clearly that the rice was blue!

Simple, eh?

No, it was blue, it just dyed dark and then the extreme lighting changed it to this.

I was just 'toying' with you... but no one else played along!

I couldn't even tell. I know it started out blue, but who knows how I made it to end up, so I thought you could have been right.

funny how us humans associate colour with taste, I bet if he used food colouring it probably tastes just the same as normal, but me I think 'eww gross blue rice"

You're probably right for most people, but I cooked mine in chicken broth instead of water and it was quite tasty! It didn't taste "blue" at all!

You actually went and did this, lol! And by the way, big congrats for making Explore with this photo!

Thats why you see very little blue food.. even the blue Smarties got the thumbs down.. and its all in the mind !
