The Black Cuillin,

The Black Cuillin,
Across a foreshortened Loch Scavaig from Elgol, Isle of Sky
as the sun attempts to break through the cloud layer.

The Cuillin is a range of mostly jagged rocky mountains on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. The main Cuillin ridge is also called the Black Cuillin to distinguish it from the Red Cuillin which lie to the east of Glen Sligachan.

The house on the far shore gives an idea of size

Brings back many great memories of stays in the Cuillins, Roger. (A mountaineering hut just where Loch Scavaig meets the inland Loch Curuisk - so right in the heart of the Black Cuillins).
A simply terrific shot!

As Jaap said, a most impressive scene here. The cottage on the bottom left leaves a great impression of scale. The rock foreground too is more than fortunate here. Well done.

A very impressive and atmospheric composition here Roger. I love the cloud shrouding the mountain top, the light on the lower peaks and the rocks in the foreground. The building on the left is a bothy located on the shore of Camasunary Bay, which we visited while walking in the area in 2013. It does indeed give a great sense of the immensity of the scene. Your picture also shows a glimpse of a more substantial cottage and outbuildings Cottage in Camasunary Bay - Isle of Skye

One of the best landscapes I have seen from the Cuillin for a long time Roger, well done.

Enjoy your Easter Sunday, Doug

I love the sense of bleakness you have captured in this image, Roger. The ethereal effect created by the mist adds a mystical quality. I hope you have a fantastic Easter, All the best, Joe

Imposing, gloomy, magnificent and just downright impressive..!! Such a wonderfully atmospheric image Roger, especially with the low cloud and mist.

The building does indeed give a sense of scale and I guess if you went there, you would feel pretty insignificant looking at the mountains.

A outstanding shot Roger..........and thanks for the memories!

Wonderful comments Keith, thank you,
This was early morning at the back end of September we would have been earlier but for a road block of highland cattle, they took a lot of persuading before we could get through,
I am pleased to have jogged the memory ,
