Relatively new camera, and I just use it on automatic for outdoor flower shots. It does a fine job on its own :-) No viewfinder so just have to trust it. Only a live view screen which I can't see when I'm outdoors. Point and shoot... I generally take an SLR shot as well, and select the best result.

Gillian, you can adjust "Monitor Brightness" in the menu settings on a sunny day. That should solve your problem. You can read how to do it in the manual.

Surprised to hear that the live view display is too dim to view outside. I hope you find some screen brightness adjustment. But yes, that is a common problem with most of the handheld devices.

One option could be to find out if that camera allows to use a mobile phone as a remote control. But then it is often cumbersome solution, and then the mobile phone display should be bright enough to become used in bright daylight.
