Eaton Centre, Toronto, #9

Eaton Centre, Toronto, #9
Toronto Eaton Centre is a shopping mall in downtown Toronto that is a major tourist attraction.

A highlight of the Centre is the sculpture Flight Stop by Michael Snow, which consists of 60 Canada geese appearing to make a landing. Each goose was made by wrapping a composite photograph of a goose around a core of fibreglass over styrofoam. For more information about the sculpture click the PiP at top left.

Will S., appo-fam, Sonia Roosen, Fred Fouarge and 16 other people have particularly liked this photo

That seems like an incredibly difficult way to craft each sculpture! To do it well, that is.

I have a zoom shot of one of the geese that shows a definite line or crease in one of them, but of course your eyes can't zoom.

Thanks, George. Snow created several works that are iconic in Canada -- the gargoyles at the major-league stadium here, for example.

Teah, dC, I realized I wasn't going to be getting out much over the winter, so devoted myself to retrospecting. It keeps me busy. It's good to hear from everyone again, too, and see what they're doing.

Seeing this photo has made me realise I've been in that shopping centre - a long time ago though, in 1984. I was onboard HMS Bristol and we stayed about a week I think.

Thanks for bringing back the memories John with this splendid shot! I don't know why your previous image didn't remind me.

There are so many malls now, Keith. They tend to blur together. There's now even a subterranean one beneath Norwich Castle.

Reflections on freedom with these faux geese....whilst trapped inside a massive mall and of course our consumerist society...blah blah!!!

And as things turned out, you're exactly right, Denis. Their creator had to protect them from being infantilized.

Fascinating John here the geese all fly over to warmer places, in spring they all come back and find their nest again, curious how well they can remember where their nest is located
Enjoy your great week there in the sun

Thanks, Sonia. The geese from farther north fly over us, too. I consider those big Vs up in the sky spectacular. Many also summer here. In Toronto they seem to have established a right of residency at the racetrack. They're even allowed to cross the track during races.
