The Dainty Dessert

The Dainty Dessert
Another find from the St. Lawrence Market weekly collectibles show in Toronto. I don't think I've posted it here before, although I posted on Flickr once.

There are recipes on the other side, but I didn't like the scan of them, so didn't post them. I could try again if anyone would like to see them.

Will S., Léopold, Denis Croissant, Fred Fouarge and 7 other people have particularly liked this photo

Had to chuckle. I almost never have Jello any more, though I think I had some colorless stuff last time I underwent a colonoscopy prep. Which reminds me - I'm due for another one, so I've definitely stopped chuckling.

I'm due next year. In recent years the prep has become worse than the exam. Over-prep seems to be the norm.

I find them very interesting - the history of cooking and of food in general has always fascinated me so, yes I don't mind if you want to show some more, John!

How foodstuff fashions change! We didn't have Jello by name in the old days, but plenty of similar jellies.

Unfortunately, George, there's no date on this one. Definitely not colours we like today, though.

And the older the more colourful, Keith. Nineteenth-century chromographs are stunning.

Reminds me of the Womens’ magazines of the fifties. Think I’ll pass on the recipes tho’ I appreciate the offer John!

Back when Jell-O had competition. Kool-Aid, too. The big brands in Canada back then were Shirriff and Freshie.
