I was hoping a red car would come along but no luck...
..so I end up with a big hole in the centre of the picture but what can you do eh red cars don't grow on trees.

Sami Serola (inactive), Fred Fouarge, J. Gafarot, tiabunna and 4 other people have particularly liked this photo

Nope - I have a white one now. Wasn't too keen on the color, but the deal was what it was. A glittery maroon was not on my radar.

You do have interesting shadows to fill some of the void. And you are well on the way to having a book on the emptiness of suburbia in the 21's Century. After all, many of them are caught between the history and closeness of a smaller, outlying town and the vibrancy of the city.

Enough suburban bashing. The angle does add a lot to the interest of the shot. I remember one fellow saying, "Something in the picture needs to be a level line," and you have one - that signpost toward the right - and it anchors the whole picture.

Thanks, Bob. I'll keep that idea of the one level line in mind.

In Canada, I think, suburban sprawl was a late arrival that came from fear of not being modern enough. All the other cities had suburban sprawl so we had to have it too to show we were Modern, Now, and Up to Date,

Another example is the Rogers Centre (the erstwhile Skydome). When everyone else had got tired of toi;et-bowl stadiums, we built one with a flippable lid.

That's an interesting series, Marko (I like the yellow one). An expose of the secret side of street photography. You've given me some ideas, too. Thanks.

Great shadows. I bet three red cars came along after you'd given up.

Thanks, Jean. The three red cars probably went by while I was getting on the bus.

Still an effective composition, car or no car.

It's annoying, isn't it, when you have the perfect frame and are just waiting for that one object to fit into it ... for me it's catching those darn pelicans against a sunset sky: they are always there at other times, but the moment you have your camera ready, they disappear into the proverbial thin air.

You're looking for pelicans, Sarah, these days I'm usually looking for someone in a red winter coat. Cultural difference or something.

Speaking of cultural differences, red winter coats aren't as frequent here as they are in Toronto. I suspect part of the reason is that Londoners aren't as infatuated with Canada Goose as Torontonians are.

Thanks, Denis. Red things tend to function as disruptors, I think, so a red car might not hve been ideal for the composition.
