It gives the feeling of looking down from a height, a bit of vertigo, even. The motion that your perspective and sight lines give has to cause this. Fascinating.

I should have thought of tthis before, but the effect of vertigo is a type of arousal that D. E. Berlyne considered to be part of how art worked. More in my reply to Tiabunna.

It's interesting, as already noted, how the tilt gives the feeling of height and vertigo.

I should have thought of this when I replied to Bob and Keith, George: Years ago (48, to be exact) I took a half-course from D. E. Berlyne, the founder of psychobiological aesthetics. His idea was that art worked by manipulating arousal. A feeling of vertigo constitutes what he would have called an arousal boost. That's been tucked away at the back of my mind while I've been tilting things lately, so thanks to you, Bob, and Keith for getting it to pop back into my consciousness.

Blame me, Denis. I actually exaggerated the tilt of the original image. Perhaps I'm just tired the boxy streetscapes of Toronto.
