I was going to say something disparaging here about photojournalism, but then I visited the local installation of the World Press Photo Exhibition today and was deeply impressed by many of the contributions. It seems not to have come or to be coming to the UK this year (which means London is behind Chicoutimi, QC) but is now on in several European cities, including Copenhagen, Berlin, and Madrid. Next month it will be in Paris, at the Galleria Carla Sozzani.

I just reak=lized this was probably inspired by (copied from) the cover of the Penguin edition of John Bingham's My Name is Michael Sibley.

I am not familiar with that book. I searched the web for images of the Penguin edition and found nothing which resembled your photograph. Notwithstanding that, I will say that it doesn't matter if your photo looks a bit like another. It could be an improvement. Everything is derivative.

I couldn't find it online either, TLC. It may turn up here shortly. I agree about everything being derivative. Often I find my photos are derivative of a painting or photograph I have badly misremembered.

I finally found the cover I was thinking of. It actually doesn't look very similar, but perhaps my memory confused the green title with cross-processing and I remembered it as cross-processed. However, the Penguin cover is lit from the front and this from the back. Another photo based on a defective memory Here's the cover:

I thought at first that sign said "murder here" and I thought Wow! They have a drive-in for everything in Canada ;-))

It was a bit of an anticlimax to realise it said "order here". An interesting shot though, with nice light, especially on the ladies hair. Were you shooting from inside the car, by any chance?

Now you know why the murder rate is so much higher here than in the UK, Keith. Actually, this is my niece ordering at Tim Hortons, and yes, I was in the car.

After not seeing this photo for five months I realize that the apparent "murder here" adds a lot to the photo. Thanks for pointing it out.

Flickr allows people to create themed galleries of other people's photographs - one of the things I miss doing since I left - and if it were possible to do the same thing on ipernity, I would pick this photograph to ensure its visibility to a wider audience. It is a thrilling slice of modern life in the western world.
