At the end of May 2018 I decided to have a couple of nights in the city and explore the area and see the buses. It is a Mercedes-Benz O 530 Citaro new in April 2008 allocated to Riverside garage in Gateshead for operation on the ‘Citylink’ branded service 57. The bridge was opened by Queen Victoria in 1849 and carries railway tracks on the upper level which can be seen above right emerging from Newcastle Central Station. The lower level features pedestrian paths either side of a roadway now restricted to use by local buses and taxis travelling southbound only. When constructed the roadway was adequate for two way carriage and cart traffic.
